About Me

My name is Gavin Daymond Sanchez, and I am an engineer who takes pride in all his work whether it be 3-D modeling parts correctly, applying equations from classes into these 3-D Models/Excel Spreadsheets/Real World Problems, and understanding that sometimes group work is required to become the best engineer possible not only here at the university but also for stepping out into the real world where the problems and challenges become even more difficult to solve.

I feel like there are a few things that brought me to mechanical engineering such as wanting to build with Legos, play with trains/cars, and seeing stuff on t.v. would get made. These things are what brought me to wanting to become a mechanical engineer as I wanted to understand how all this stuff was made and how it should be properly made so it can be used in the world. I want to be the kind of mechanical engineer that can design parts fast but not look cheap, do it efficiently/proficiently, and make it to where it can help solve any rising problems that may appear within.

I feel like I am becoming a design/mechanical engineer, and I want to make my designs with a balance between quality and quantity, efficiency and speed, and with a sense of structural integrity. I want my parts to be manufacturable and not have a high cost attached to them unless it is needed. I also want my parts to function properly in the real world and have my parts be used wherever they are deemed necessary. I also want to be able to understand the right materials that need to be used when designing specific parts like say if I was designing a connecting rod that needed to handle heavy loading coming from the combustion within the chamber, I would have to find the right material that could withstand such forces, I would have to figure out what way it needs to get manufactured to get as much strength out of the material as possible, and design the connecting rod in a way that it doesn't shear from axial loads created by the engine

To defend an engineering decision is most likely like defending a design choice made by you as an engineer if it were questioned by someone who thought it would be better if some other design choice was better than that of your own decision. An example of this would be someone wanting to design an engine block out of a billet block of aluminum, but someone might challenge that idea and say why can't we just cast the block instead. So that person would have to defend his reason as to why it would be better to make the block out of a billet block of aluminum, the reasons could be cost wise, manufacturing wise, design wise, material wise, etc. Defending an engineering decision should not be a half-baked answer it should be one where we as engineers must be ready to be faced with and understand how to answer that question properly when our design ideas are challenged either by other engineers, superiors, or people who use the product we design. Overall though I feel like I as an engineer am not at that level, yet where I could fully explain some of my own design choices when designing a part.
